Avatar makers

Avatars are stand-ins for actual photographs on the web.  One of the best ways to keep yourself safe on the internet is to keep yourself anonymous.  These "cartoony" avatars are a perfect way to do just that.  There are a number of really great avatar-creating sites out there, but here are a few of my favorites.

  1. Dopple Me
  2. Mii Creator

Once you get your avatar created, you'll probably want to save it using a screencapture tool.  Here are a few suggestions.

  1. Windows 7 Snipping Tool
  2. Chrome Extension "Awesome Screenshot"

Mosaic Fish

The kindergarteners are making fish mosaics this week. They start with a drawing that they have to fill with color. Instead of using crayons and markers, they fill the shapes with lots of tiny pieces of construction paper. Here are a few samples showing off the great textures you can create with this technique.

Insect Invasion!

Cower in terror as the 1st graders learn about creepy, crawly bugs! Okay, there's really nothing to be afraid of--these are just drawings. The students are using photo reference to make realistic-looking insects, worms, and spiders. They start with pencil, trace with marker, and add textures and designs using crayons and colored pencils.

Some of these creepy critters will be on display at the SACS Unified Arts Night Tuesday, January 29 from 5:00-6:30! Come see what all the "buzz" is about!
